2010 Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2010 vintage in the Napa Valley was exceptional despite the unusual growing season that seesawed from a cool, damp start to the year to an intense heat spell just before harvest. Bud break and flowering in the spring were a few weeks past their customary timing followed by a summer with slightly more moderate temperatures than is typical for the Valley. However a deep heat spike in late August enabled the vines to quickly catch up to optimum ripeness. Yields were lower than normal with the remaining fruit showing excellent flavors and concentration with well-shaped tannins and acidity for creating elegant, beautifully balanced wine.
2010 PLUME grapes were carefully selected from a premium collection of vineyards across key Napa Valley sub-appellations allowing us to achieve greater complexity and depth of layers in crafting this classic Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage is a blend of fruit from the hillsides of Atlas Peak with that of the warmer north valley floor in Calistoga, the cooler south valley of Oak Knoll, and the renowned, old world earthiness of Rutherford. This enabled our consulting winemaker Scott McLeod to achieve a wine with excellent color, balance and ripe flavours showing authentic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon varietal character. The resulting blend brings the bright red fruit of the cooler areas with the rich and structured black fruit of the warmer regions.
Aged in premium French oak barrels for 20 months, PLUME has aromatics of dark cherry and cassis with toasty mocha notes. The intense palate is rich with classic Cabernet flavors of ripe berries, vibrant cherries and anise with a hint of vanilla. A touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contributes spice undertones. Lush in texture, the extended mouthfeel is completed by an opulent and lengthy finish
Cellaring and Pairing
Ready to enjoy now, PLUME will cellar beautifully to 2018. Enjoy with robust dishes such as shitake mushroom pâté, grilled Angus ribeye, rich tomato-based pasta, or well aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Another delicious vintage of the Plume, a combined effort between the Zepponi family of Napa Valley and the Stewart family of Quails’ Gate in the Okanagan Valley. The aromas are black currents, brown spices, dusty plums, leather, espresso, roasted carob and a dollop of raspberry jam. The palate is equally rich and dark with plenty of juicy berry fruit to keep it bright. Roasted mocha and chocolate cake is layered with spice flavours. A hearty red with very good persistence.

Here’s an unusual bird. Plume is a partnership between the Zepponi family of California that founded ZD Wines in Napa and the Stewart family behind Quails’ Gate in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Backstory: Dan Zepponi got to know the folks at Quails’ Gate when he worked as president of B.C.’s nearby Mission Hill Family Estate several years ago before returning to California in 2009. This is big, teeth-staining cabernet in a classically ripe Napa style. Raspberry jam and luscious dark chocolate find balance in lively baking spices and dry tannins. It’s sweet enough to offer plenty of pleasure now but should cellar well for four to six years.

This Napa Valley wine has a Canadian connection, as the Stewart family – from the Okanagan’s Quail’s Gate Winery – has partnered with Napa’s Zepponi family (original owners of ZD Winery) to create this reasonably priced Napa Cab. The wine spends 20 months in French oak and offers notes of blackberry and cherry fruit with hints of vanilla. There is some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in the blend that adds a nice spice component to the mix…

This is only the second vintage of this well-priced, well-made Napa Cab that is a joint venture of the Zepponi Family from Napa and the Stewart family from the Okanagan Valley. It starts with a big, bold nose of extracted black cherry, bramble bush, blackberries, plums, raspberry and sweet oak spices. It’s wonderful on the palate with ripe fruits of cherry and cassis with lovely notes of road tar, eucalyptus and licorice to go with a vibrant core of acidity and soft tannins. Fantastic value from Napa.

Blending Napa’s cool and warm sub-appellations brings about bright cherry fruit and richer cassis, enhanced by Rutherford’s noted dustiness. French oak aging imparts toasty vanilla and creamy mocha notes. Splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot imbue complexity and spiciness. Get grillin!…

The colour of this Napa Cabernet is deep, ruby red and the nose revewals dark fruits, plum, strawberries, cherry, cassis, spice and a delicate hint of oak. The tannins here are evident but caressing. PLUME has length with ripe fruit flavours, red plum and spiciness reminiscent of Paulliac…
TASTE Magazine, Spring 2013
PLUME is a joint venture between the Stewart family (Quails’ Gate Winery) and Dan Zepponi, who grew up at ZD Winery in Napa Valley. Plume tastes like it sounds a bit soft and airy but with plenty of rich berry fruit and spice with just a hint of that Napa plushness. A crowd pleasing style…

This is a wine that over delivers. It begins with aromas of cherry, cassis and touch of eucalyptus. On the palate, the texture is opulent, with flavours of cherries and black currants mingled with chocolate. On the finish, there are appealing spicy hints of cloves and liquorice. The ripe, round tannins give the wine an easy accessibility now but I would not hesitate to lay some down for a few years…

A smooth, enticing Cabernet with great finesse. Very typical of a modern Napa style exhibiting more grace and elegance than many examples at this price that tend to be heavier, bold and often clunky. Although there is a touch of sweetness here, the wine is balanced and the flavours are beautifully integrated. Brimming with black and blue fruit along with pretty floral aromatics, there is a femininity to this wine and a charming sultry mouthfeel…
